Episode 27 - The Men's Retreat: Behind the Scenes
Jake and Brett talk about the various movements and dynamics that occur behind the scenes in preparation for the Men’s Retreat.
Key Points
Finding a theme involves a lot of time, prayer, and discernment
The foundation of this year’s theme comes from Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence.”
The motivation is a desire for the good of the men who attend the retreat
We start with the question, “Father, what do you want for the men? How do you want to encounter your sons?”
The core team gathers and begins to fellowship with each other
Our approach and desire is just like Jesus when he says, “The son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the son also does.” (John 5:19)
There is great benefit of a team having a unified experience of God as they are discerning
The team doesn’t just do the same thing over and over; everything is on the drawing board every year
An important reality for the team is being called and anointed. This is applicable throughout life.
Calling is the place or area of life and service you are supposed to be in; it’s your “lane.”
Anointing is a supernatural capacity that comes out of a calling where the kingdom of God is at hand
David trying to wear Saul’s armour before his battle with Goliath is a symbolic example of trying to operate in something outside your calling an anointing (Saul’s armour).
Part of “retreat” is getting to the event
A special word to men who are considering coming
We can’t underestimate the battle it takes to simply attend the retreat. We live in a world at war. There is an enemy.
The Men’s Retreat 2019 is Sep 20-22 in Princeton BC
